Types of services

Lawn treatments – We offer the standard, standard plus and premium treatment plans. These include regular fertiliser, moss and weed control applications.

Lawn scarification – We use a machine to remove moss and thatch from the lawn. We typically pass over the lawn twice and then remove the detritus.

Solid tine aeration – We use a machine with solid tines to punch holes into the lawn.

Hollow tine aeration – We use a machine with hollow tines to pull material out of the lawn to relieve compaction. We collect the cores after operation or scarify them to break up the soil.

Fracture tine aeration – We use a very specific machine with a specifically designed tine to aerate the lawn. It recreates a verti drain action that de-compacts deeper and more aggressively than solid tinning.

Double aeration – We use both the fracture tine and solid tine techniques to aerate the lawn.

Top dressing – We apply either sand, compost or sandy material across the lawn at 3L per m2. We then work the material into the lawn with a rake or drag mat.

Heavy top dressing – We apply either sand or sandy material across the lawn at 9L per m2 in order to even out any dips and hollows. We use a rake or drag mat to level out the material.

Over-seeding – We apply a Rye grass seed at 20g/m2 across the lawn to fill in gaps in the lawn.

Mowing – We cut on a 2 weekly basis at a height of between 25 and 30mm. We use either a rotary or cylinder mower. This service includes strimmer work around the edges, beds and trees. We also tidy up with a blower.

Lawn raking – We rake through the lawn with a specific machine to remove moss and thatch. We pass across the lawn a single time on a monthly basis from April till October.

Turfing – We turn over the soil, clear any detritus from the surface. If we are adding an ameliorant to improve the soil, we would apply and work it into the soil. We then rake the area level, consolidate and rake again to get the final level. We then lay the turf and cut in to shape.

Seeding – We turn over the soil, clear any detritus from the surface. If we are adding an ameliorant to improve the soil, we would apply and work it into the soil. We then rake the area level, consolidate and rake again to get the final level. We then seed the area at 50g/m2 then cover for 3 weeks. Once the cover is removed we feed the grass.

Wildflowers – We turn over the soil, clear any detritus from the surface. If we are adding an ameliorant to improve the soil, we would apply and work it into the soil. We then rake the area level, consolidate and rake again to get the final level. We then seed the area with the chosen mix between 3 and 5g/m2.

Lawn edging – We use an aluminum edging made by rite edge. We dig a trench either along an established edge or to create an edge of a lawn. Once positioned into place the stakes are used to secure the edge. We then backfill to the required level.

Green car parks – We carry out work on the lawn to level it up. We then use a mesh to cover the area and use the recommended pins to secure in place.

 

Undertaking the service

All services are scheduled in advance with agreement of the customer. We also ask customers have the lawn in a suitable condition for the work to be carried out ie. no pet faeces and cut to a suitable height. 

Any changes in dates would be communicated with as much notice as possible. Sometimes there are events outside of our control. Please see the ‘events outside of our control section’.

 

Price and payment 

All services will be quoted for, customers should refer to this for the cost of services. All payment methods are indicated on the invoice along with VAT.

We offer pay as you go which means after the work is carried out an invoice will be sent.

We offer pay monthly for lawn care services. We take the total of the quote and divide it by the number of months left in the year. The plans run from Feb till Jan.

We offer direct debit through gocardless. This can be used for pay as you go and monthly invoices.

We also accept BACS, the details can be found on the invoice.

Any landscaping service requires a non-refundable 50% deposit prior to starting. The remainder will be due upon completion.

 

Complaints

Any complaints should be made by contacting 1840 Lawn Care via email.

We would do our best to try and rectify the problem.

If a satisfactory solution cannot be found the Citizens Advice Bureau offers advice and steps to take.

 

Liability

We have public liability insurance that covers any damage to property that may occur during the carrying out of services.

We do not take responsibility for after care, this can be for landscaping projects and lawn care services. We always offer advice for customers to follow which will try to cover all weather patterns. Extreme weather or not following the advice is not our responsibility.

 

Events outside of our control

The weather is something we cannot control. We try to offer advice that takes different weather conditions into account. Extreme weather such as heat, drought and snow may be beyond anything we can limit the damage of.

We also try to work around the weather to ensure the best quality of job. This may mean short notice changes in schedule.

We advise customers to avoid turfing at certain times of year as these are more likely to have pest problems. As a result of the reduction in chemical available turf growers are now not applying controls. This means turf may come in with pests and may not be visible upon inspection.

 

Cancellation

We do not tie customers into a contract. We do require an email to cancel before the next scheduled visit.

If a customer wishes to cancel whilst paying monthly, we will calculate the cost of work carried out and total of monthly payments and either refund of invoice for any discrepancy.
